English

With all due respect this analogy is not logical. Please face the truth: in China and Taiwan there is no pupils that cannot speak or understand Mandarin (except for some rural areas). So they have to learn Mandarin Pinyin.

I am culturally a Chinese but I've never had any special sentiments attached to the National Language. Had I been offered a chance to choose between English and Mandarin when I was a babbling baby, I would have chosen English of course. Don't reproach me, all of you would have done the same too.
