你可以去读读他对潮汕话的描述，也很有趣。他说潮汕话之于厦门话，就像荷兰语之于德语、葡萄牙语之于西班牙语，不知道这么比喻是否得当？

此譬喻我认为还是很恰当的。特别是有一点，荷兰语和德语口语听起来很不一样，但是看文字的话会更容易互通；葡萄牙语和西班牙语更是如此。这感觉和我听闽南语相似，若不是很熟悉的内容，我听的时候只能听懂50%左右，但如果是写在纸面上的闽南白话字，我通过阅读理解的部分远远超过我单凭听能听懂的部分。

Of all the foreign materials I have read, they all say the degree of mutual intelligibility between spoken Dutch and German is around 70%.

I have tried to to make use of any2djvu at http://any2djvu.djvuzone.org/  to convert the scanned images to djvu format with ocr appplied. This means the dictionary can now be searched. The OCR is more than 90% correct. Sometimes the marked text might be a bit off the right one, so you need to view its left or right to find the correct text.

You can download djvu viewer or browser plugin from http://djvu.org/resources/.

The file size is less than 30MB, a very manageable one. To download the file, please get it at http://dic.timluo.net/amoy/Douglas/doug.djvu.

As to the supplement, it should be available in a day or two.

Actually I prefer the djvu format, only that I do not know how to preserve those bookmarks therein. Once I bookmarked many djvu books and then for some reason I reinstalled the operation system and, alas, it turned out to be that I eventually lost all the bookmarks of my djvu books !
