As to the "hok-ló" issue, it is a very interesting or confusing one as you cannot find this entry itself in the Dictionary itself. This also suggests that term was not used in Fujian itself back then.
In my own experience, I had never heard people say "hok-ló" or "ho̍h-ló" or other variants in Taiwan before senior high school. It was only around 1980 that I began to hear people in Taiwan mention a lot about it . At that time they all said it stood for 河洛. And it seems that 連雅堂 was the first one to say it was called 河洛話. But many things in Taiwan are all said purely on ideological basis. Take for example, many people claim that "烏魯木齊" is wrong for the expression meaning "things very bad, messy, nonsense etc." as the say the pronunciation is o͘-ló͘-bo̍k-chê.
